The pastor’s robe focuses us on Jesus.
The robe that the pastor wears is meant to cover his body and clothing as a way of taking the focus off the pastor and placing our focus squarely on Jesus and his cross. The pastor either will wear a black robe or a white robe. When he wears a white robe, he will also wear a cloth around his shoulders that matches the color of the altar cloth for the season of the church year. This cloth, called a stole, is a symbol of the yoke of humble service into which the pastor has been ordained.
